Asheville Summer Camp

Asheville Summer Camp

ACA Adventure Summer Camp

For almost 50 years, The Greiner family has become a prominent leader in the guided outdoor adventure industry in the Southeastern United States.  Jeff Greiner, managing owner of the Adventure Center of Asheville, grew up in the outdoor adventure industry with his family. In 1971, Jeff's parents started the first whitewater rafting business (Wildwater, Ltd.) in the Southeast on the Chattooga River. That small family business has grown into one of the largest and most respected professional outfitters in the United States with five locations and over 20 different adventures to choose from.

Six years ago, the Asheville Summer Camps at the Adventure Center were created to offer the younger generation an option to get outdoors in the summer months.  Our objective as an Asheville Summer Camp is to offer a wide variety of adventure experiences and active lifestyles while teaching leadership, responsibility, respect for the environment and others, and cooperative skills. No other day camp program in Western NC offers the wide range of activities and adventures!

Each day, campers will get to experience a different adventure at the Adventure Center of Asheville and Wildwater, Ltd. including:

  • Asheville Treetops Adventure Park
Largest WNC aerial challenge course in the trees with over 70 unique climbing, rolling, walking, jumping, swinging, and rappelling elements in a wooded park utilizing state of the art “smart clips” (highly specialized safety clipping systems designed to assure constant connection to safety cables) while exploring exciting challenges in the Treetops.

  • Asheville Zipline Canopy Adventures
Urban canopy tour with 5 ziplines in treetop platforms and adventure towers with skyline views of Asheville including a our tandem 1,200 foot “Skyline” Ziplines to fly side-by-side with a friend

  • KidZip
One of America's first zipline adventures designed for kids 4-10 years old. It includes 9 ziplines and 4 fun climbing elements in a park area. The ziplines range from 50 feet to 250 feet long.  They range in height from 25 feet high to ground level. Adventure Camp campers are able to choose this option, even if they are older!!

  • KOLO Bike Park
Mountain bike sampler-pack designed for all rider levels including practice and skills training areas, three miles of purpose-built bike trails and two pump tracks. Kolo Bike Camp counselors and instructors help lead the riding sessions.

  • Wildwater Ltd. Whitewater Rafting on the Pigeon River
Raft an exciting dam-controlled river in the Great Smoky Mountains with an experienced raft guide in every raft.  The upper section has class II, III & IV rapids.

  • TreeQuest- New This Year! Recreational tree climbing uses specialized gear and techniques to allow participants to climb the tree using a rope without negatively affecting the tree.

In addition, campers enjoy a daily swim at Asheville Racquet Club Pool in the afternoons.

Then the rest of their day is filled with facilitated group games like team building and gaga ball, and creative learning with programs from area partners like Chimney Rock Park.   And of course, lots of fun!!!!

At the Adventure Center of Asheville our team of professional outdoor leaders take pride and care in providing our Guests with an excellent experience.  Our camp counselor team is made up of certified teachers and young adults whose passion is working with youth and sharing their love for life and adventure. Our Asheville Summer Adventure Camp is staffed by 4 to 5 full-time day camp staff. Campers are regularly divided into smaller, age appropriate groups to manage group size and allow campers to excel in each activity at their personal skill level and comfort zone. Great care is taken to assure campers are comfortable with each activity while encouraging them to stretch their comfort zone further. sarah-nicholson-camp-directorSarah Nicholson, Asheville Summer Camp - Adventure Camp Director

Hello! I’m Sarah, the director of Adventure Camp. This is my third year working at camp and I couldn’t be more excited! A little about me: I was born and raised in Swansboro, NC, a small beach town. I grew up going out in the boat with my family and hanging out at the ocean with my friends. I moved to Asheville to attend UNC Asheville and never left! I am currently a middle school teacher and have taught elementary school in the past. In my spare time, I love hiking with my dog and cooking anything. My favorite adventure activity is white water rafting because it reminds me of home. I can’t wait to have an awesome summer at Adventure Camp!
