What kind of attire is appropriate?

Aerial Activities

    • You will be wearing a full body harness and a helmet

  • Closed toe shoes are mandatory for every activity (tennis shoes are fine)- no sandals allowed

  • Long shorts or pants are suggested
  • You may want to wear a collar shirt because of the harness on your shoulders
  • Tie long hair back in a low pony tail (as you will be wearing a helmet) and no dangling jewelry
  • Cell phones/cameras you may bring at your own risk
  • Bring a raincoat in case of rain (we go rain or shine)
  • For cold weather: synthetic, wool, or fleece layers work great with wool/fleece socks, gloves, a warm coat, and warm hats that will fit under helmets

Though you can bring any small personal items (i.e. phones, wallets, etc) on our tours we are not responsible for any lost or damaged items. We recommend keeping any phones or wallets in a secure zipper pocket.

Do I have to progress up through the course?

No, you can continue to do one course multiple times as long as you are within your time limit.

What is the trip time? And what does it include?

The 2-hour trip time includes your ground school time and your climbing time.  We guarantee that you will climb on at least two aerial trails during your trip time.

Can kids go while I'm on the ground watching?

Check out the Age Breakdown Chart on our Rules and Regulations section.  Monitors are watching adults. Escorts are paying and climbing adults.

Are cameras alright to take with me?

Cell phones/cameras you may bring at your own risk . However, you will need the use of your hands while climbing.

What if I don't use all of my time?

Sorry, unless there is an emergency situation that requires you to come down, there is no rain check or refund for partial time used.

What ages can climb the Treetops?

Ages 4 and over.  However, younger participants are required to have paying escorts and/or watching monitors.  Please review our age chart.

Kids age 4-6 will receive a roller that is attached to their full body harness. They will use this roller on our ground trail, the Purple Trail until they have the confidence to go higher to the Green or Blue Trail with a 1:1 adult escort (paying/climbing adult).

Is this a zipline tour?

The Treetops Park is not a Canopy Zipline Tour. It includes aerial elements that can be mentally and physically challenging for all ages. The seven trails range in height and difficulty. Each trail consists of a variety of obstacles such as: a kayak in the sky, climbing walls, and various styles of bridges.

Is this a guided tour?

Due to the way our Park was designed, our staff do not accompany you on aerial trails.  Participants individually use our “smart clips” or “rollers” to ensure they are connected to our aerial trail cables at all times.  However, we do have aerial park rangers on the ground monitoring all Guests in case they need assistance.

Can you choose how high you want to climb?

The Treetops Park is “challenge by choice”. The trails range from 12 to 50 feet in the air and, depending on your age, you can choose which trail and at what difficulty you want to challenge yourself.

What is the activity level of this Adventure Park?

Guests must be able to walk up steps and on challenge elements like swinging bridges, and cable wires. While, the beginner trails are not strenuous, they do require the participant to have balance and some flexibility. The higher you go the more difficult and strenuous the challenges become.

Is the Treetops Park just for kids?

Treetops is not a “kid” park.  The Yellow, Orange, Red and Black trails are very adventurous at 40-60 feet in the air and offer every participant a great challenge!!

What gear do we use?

Every Guest is provided with a five-point seated full body harness and a helmet. We use a “smart clip” system for Guests to navigate the Treetops Course as well as the “roller” system for our younger participants.  All gear used is in compliance with the standards set by The Association for Challenge Course Technology.

What are the weight requirements of the Zipline Canopy Tour?

70-250 lbs, Guests may be weighed on arrival as this is an important requirement for our staff and guests

What is the activity level of the Zipline Canopy Tour?

While zipping on the Zipline Canopy Tour is not a strenuous activity, Guests do have to climb the stairs of our zipline tower.  The zip speed of the Guest is manually controlled, therefore every Guest participates in ground school to practice before climbing the tower. Our first three ziplines are designed to be a little slower and shorter than the rest of the lines so that participants can gain confidence before getting on our faster ziplines. Guests must be able to use their arms to steer and slow down the zipline trolley.

Will I be in the trees?
Yes! although our course is in an urban, park like setting, there are many beautiful trees on the course! Most of our platforms are in trees, some over 150 years old! Some of our zips go through the canopy, and some are in the open air! 3 of our platforms are in the “Jenga” tower, which is 54 feet to the top!
What is the layout of your course?
We offer 10 ziplines and 3 sky bridges, 2 that are 100 feet long! After “ground school,” you will do 3 introductory zips to help you “get your wings,” then you will traverse to the top of the tower where you will start your journey through the trees!
What is the highest we will be on the course?
Our highest platform is about six stories high, and our highest zipline is about 70 feet above ground!
How high/long are the ziplines?

Our ziplines range in length from approximately 75’ to 1,200’.  Our two longest ziplines (both of which are tandem zips where Guests zip side by side) are only available on our full-length tour.  The highest point on our course is approximately 65’ above ground.

Can I wear my sunglasses or baseball cap?
Yes! Sunglasses usually stay on with the help of a helmet, but a strap will ensure they stay on. Baseball caps work best when they don’t have the button on the top.
Will I zipline over water?
No. This particular course is an urban course on a 125 acre property 1 mile from downtown Asheville. It does offer breathtaking views of the city skyline as well as the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains. Our company does offer another zipline/canopy tour just 53 miles from this location where you can zip over the Pigeon River twice on 1200 foot ziplines, as well as by a waterfall and over a creek!
What ages can zip the Canopy Tour?

Ages 8 and over.  Participants must also be between 70 and 250 lbs.  Children under the age of 13 are required to have an adult escort.

Are there 2 Canopy Tour Options?

Yes!  We offer a Full Tour and an Express Tour.  The Full Tour includes 11 ziplines and 3 sky bridges. This trip includes the Skyline Zip which has 1,200 foot lines that you can zip side-by-side with a friend.  Trip time: 2-3 hours

The Express Tour is 7 ziplines and 1 sky bridge with a trip time of 1-2 hours.

See our zipline map.

What is the trip time? And what does it include?

The trip time includes an extensive ground school and your zipping time.  Our ground school includes getting on your gear and learning how to zip at our location, as well as practicing on the ground before you climb the tower.

Is this zipline tour in the forest or mountains?

Our Canopy Tour is at the Adventure Center which is 5 minutes from downtown Asheville.  It is an urban tour, not in a forest. It is set on a 124-acre resort and designated tree preserve perched in and amongst some of the oldest and largest oak trees in Asheville. Zippers will enjoy scenic mountain views, as well as spectacular views of the Asheville skyline, as they fly through tree-lined corridors.

Are there staff escorts?

Yes!  Every zipline tour will have 2 ranger escorts per 10 participants.

What gear do we use?

Our Guests and guides both wear the same type of gear which includes: a five-point full-body harness, a helmet, a zipline trolley, and padded gloves. All gear used is in compliance with the standards set by The Association for Challenge Course Technology.

FAQs

What ages can zip the Kid Zip?

This Zipline Park was created for kids ages 4 to 10 years. Kids ages 4-6 are required to have a 1:1 paying adult escort. Kids ages 7-10 are required to have an adult monitor.  Kids older than 10 may participate on KidZip with their younger friends or family. Parents are also welcome and may be required to zip due to kids age.

What is the trip time? And what does it include?

The 2-hour trip time includes your ground school time and your zipping time.  The 2 hour time period allows for all zippers the opportunity to complete the entire course multiple times.

Is this a guided tour?

Due to the way our Park was created, our staff do not accompany you on the Kid Zip. Participants individually use our “rollers” to ensure they are connected to our aerial zipline cables at all times.  However, we do have park rangers on the ground monitoring all Guests in case they need assistance.

Can you choose how high you want to zip?

No and Yes!  The ziplines range from 50 feet to 250 feet long.  They range in height from 25 feet high to ground level.  As you zip through the park, the lines get higher and longer.  However, there is an exit point in the middle of the course for Guests who do not want to zip the higher, longer lines.

What is the activity level of KidZip?

Guests must be able to walk up steps, ladders and land on platforms.  While the ziplines are not strenuous, they do require the participant to have balance and some flexibility.

What is the maximum weight/height limit for the KidZip?

Maximum weight of Guest is 225 lbs. and 6’4”.

What gear do we use?

Our Guests wear a five-point full-body harness, a helmet, and a trolley.  The trolley we use on KidZip is a continuous roller meaning it does not come off the cable until the Guests reaches an exit point on the ground. All gear used is in compliance with the standards set by The Association for Challenge Course Technology.

Donations

Does the ACA make charitable donations?

The Adventure Center of Asheville and Wildwater are locally owned and operated. We believe that being a responsible business means giving back to our community. Therefore, we contribute over $75,000 a year to schools, community organizations, at risk populations, healthy living, and green/environmental programs throughout the region.  This includes our annual event in June, Zipping for Autism, in which we have donated over $250,000 since 2013 to family services for autism support in Western North Carolina.

Each year, we receive many donation requests for financial assistance, tickets and merchandise in support of many charitable organizations and schools.  We regret that we cannot approve all requests.  Ineligible donation requests include monetary donations and individual fundraisers.

We accept donation requests for activity passes via the following form four times a year and are glad to review your request at those times.  Current requests will be reviewed after March 31, June 30, September 30 and December 31.   Therefore, all requests in between those time periods must be submitted prior.

Our family came to the Asheville area from Virginia for a long weekend in an effort to change up our scenery and give... our kids something to look forward to because we had been under our stay-at-home order since mid-March. We decided to do the ziplining tour at Asheville Adventure Center because it gave us a chance to do something as a family outside and it was an activity the kids were really excited about. The folks at Asheville Adventure Center were amazing. Very friendly, with a great customer service attitude. We had our safety training with Jeff, whom I think is the owner, and our ziplining guides were Brandon and Donovan. They were terrific. Very low stress, but also very focused on safety and procedure. We had a very nice time talking with them over the two hours and we can't say enough about how much they added to our enjoyment of the experience. During the ziplining, we all had to wear facemasks because it was not possible to always stay six feet apart during time on the tree platforms but it was not too much of a bother and it actually ended up keeping my face warm because it was cool and breezy up in the trees. We highly recommend this company and will come back to do another activity with them the next time we come to Asheville!read more

My first time on a zipline and I loved it! I was especially impressed by the safety standards at the Adventure Center.... They took time for a training session to ensure all participants could demonstrate basic skills. ANY time a participation was up high, he/she was securely tethered by at least one (usually more) line to a strong cable. But our guides weren’t all business. Their jokes, stories, and little dance/demonstrations added greatly to the super fun experience. So go, zip, laugh and know you are in very safe hands.read more

As locals, we love having a full bike park just 10 minutes from the house--pump tracks, single trails, skill park and... friendly, fantastic staff. Our son goes to camp here all summer, and I ride with him several afternoons a week after work.
