Asheville Adventure Summer Camp has added youth development outcomes and benefits for your kids!
At the Adventure Center of Asheville, we genuinely believe that our Adventure Summer Day Camp program is designed to give campers the BEST week of summer ever. Whether your camper is trying a new adventure activity (such as biking, ziplining, rafting, or climbing), working with their fellow campers on games, or teambuilding initiatives, or picking out what activity they want to do during our daily Camper’s Choice, our counselors are there to assist them throughout the week to grow out of their comfort zone and thrive outdoors!.
The benefits of children attending summer camp are endless. The American Camp Association National Research shows that attending summer camp can help growth in self-esteem, independence, social skills, peer relationships, adventure and exploration, values and decisions, and leadership.
“The findings from this national study indicate that camp is a unique educational institution and a positive force in youth development. The camp experience can benefit children by increasing:
- confidence and self-esteem
- social skills and making friends
- independence and leadership qualities
- willingness to try and adventurousness “
At Adventure Camp, we spend much of our time in the trees at our Treetops Adventure Park, KidZip, Guided Canopy Tour, and TreeQuest. We spend non-adventure time learning wilderness skills, participating in team-building challenges, swimming, and playing group games. Spending all of our week outside, our camp activities offer many benefits for children’s physical, mental, emotional, and social health. According to Harvard Medical School studies show that playing OUTSIDE in the sunshine; exercising; performing executive functioning skills that help us plan, prioritize, troubleshoot, negotiate, and multitask; taking risks; socializing, and appreciating nature increase children’s chances of future health and success.
The bottom line is, our Adventure Campers are getting loads of hidden benefits from their week of camp- and they’re having a blast while doing it! For more information, click here!
